Welcome to the Musical World's Of Laurie Johnson! Perhaps best known for over 400 plus film scores including the Stanley Kubrick classic Dr Strangelove and for his numerous TV themes, ranging from The Professionals and The Avengers to This Is Your Life. There is however another side to the world of Laurie Johnson, and it is this world that we focus on with this new release from AVID/Horatio Nelson.
In 1969 Laurie gathered together some of the greatest names in British jazz, including Tubby Hayes, Joe Harriott, Kenny Wheeler & Stan Tracey amongst them! This great all star line up were joined by the London Philarmonic Orchestra to perform Laurie's great masterwork, his Symphony (Synthesis).
We also include a more recent work by Laurie, his Concerto For Trumpet, Tenor Saxophone and Orchestra, recorded in 1999 by the London Big Band featuring Guy Barker and Tommy Whittle, joined by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
To complete our journey around Laurie's musical world, we include The Wind In Willows (Tone Poem) and the Overture to Irma La Goose!
