At last, the wait is over, we hear you cry, again! AVID have finally released a second instalment in our fine June Christy Four Classic Albums series. Ah, but this time we have gone one better, one, as in, an extra featured album making this set Five Classic Albums. The wait has been worth it we hear you cry! Ok so we have taken our time in paying tribute to the great lady, but we wanted to get it right, we wanted to select the best albums that truly captured Miss Christys huge vocal talents. And we think with the four selections we have chosen we reached the spot! Well, we wrote those lines above for our first June Christy release and re-reading them again while listening to these five fine new selections they are as applicable to the new fab 5 as they were for the old fab 4! June Christy sang her heart out throughout the 1940s and 1950s where she played, toured and recorded with the Stan Kenton orchestra and it was while she was still with the outfit that she began to establish her solo recording career. The high regard she was held in can be seen by the incredible line up of jazz musicians who are featured on our latest five fine selections. The mighty Pete Rugolo (AMSC1176) again takes the arranging and conducting controls on four of our selections while the fifth album Junes Got Rhythm finds husband Bob Cooper (AMSC1180) behind the controls and is also heard playing tenor sax and oboe. Musicians you will hear on our selections include the following
Pete Rugolo, Bob Cooper, Bud Shank, Russ Freeman, Paul Horn, Shelly Manne, Laurindo Almeida, Dave Pell, Don Fagerquist, Shorty Rogers, Pete Candoli, Frank Rosolino, John Graas, Joe Castro, Jim Hall, Red Callender, Red Mitchell, Joe Mondragon, Stan Levey and Mel Lewis.
