It’s been a while since our first visit to the fine catalogue of the great alto and tenor saxman Art Pepper (AMSC962). An album that has since gone on to be one of our most successful sellers. In fact I just checked the release date and it’s been 12 incredible years since that first set, time sure flies when you’re having fun releasing so much great music for the AVID record label! So, as you would expect, Art is joined by a whole host of great jazz players for these four fine selections. Here’s just a flavour of some of those guys, Jack Montrose, Hampton Hawes, Russ Freeman, Claude Williamson, Bud Shank, Bill Perkins, Herb Geller, Joe Mondragon, Marty Paich, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, Jimmie Cobb, Conte Candoli and Frank Butler. The cast is impressive, the music is even more impressive, take a listen.
