AVID Jazz continues with its Four Classic Album series with a re-mastered 2CD second set release from Sonny Rollins, complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details
Tenor Madness; Way Out West; Newks Time and The Bridge
Okay, so we just had to re-visit the Sonny Rollins catalogue as we had always felt we had not done justice to it on our first swing through his work. So here we have four of the great tenor mans finest albums for your listening pleasure. From the driving blast from the two tenors, Rollins and Coltrane on Tenor Madness, backed up by Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe to the more low key piano-less abstraction of Way Out West, featuring just Sonny on tenor with Ray Brown on bass and Shelly Manne on drums to the driving jazz of Newks Time featuring Wynton Kelly, Doug Watkins and Philly Joe Jones to the sublime The Bridge with Jim Hall on guitar, Bob Cranshaw on bass and Ben Riley or H.T. Saunders on drums. Truly great work. Check out AMSC965 for more great Sonny Rollins music.
