AVID Jazz continues with its Four Classic album series with a re-mastered 2CD release from Don Bagley, complete with original artwork and liner notes.
Stan Kentons New Concepts of Artistry in Rhythm featuring Don Bagley; Basically Bagley; Jazz On The Rocks and The Soft Sell
Bassist Don Bagley made very few solo albums under his own name, he was much better known as a formidable sideman participating in many fine albums by Stan Kenton and as a session man for Nat King Cole, Dexter Gordon and far too many others to mention! Here we feature all three of his hard to find solo albums on which he writes almost all the titles and as a bonus we have included Stan Kentons New Concepts of Artistry in Rhythm in which Bagley, as ever, plays a key role for Kenton. To get an idea of how Bagley was thought of amongst his peers, just take a look at some of the fine young jazz musicians playing on these three albums..... Phil Woods, Eddie Costa, Sal Salvador, Charlie Persip, Shelly Manne, Jimmy Rowles and Paul Horn. And then, of course, buy the set and discover for yourselves!
