AVID Jazz continues with its Four Classic album series with a re-mastered 2CD release by Russ Freeman, complete with original artwork and liner notes.
Chet Baker Quartet featuring Russ Freeman; Russ Freeman & Chet Baker Quartet; Russ Freeman Trio featuring Joe Mondragon and Shelly Manne and Andre Previn & Russ Freeman Double Play.
Classically trained from the age of eight, pianist Russ Freeman turned to jazz in the 1940s and began to build his reputation as a pianist and writer, working with such jazz greats as Art Pepper and Shorty Rogers.
Freeman was not a high profile jazz pianist in the mould of Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson or Randy Weston but more of a collaborator and worked with many of the jazz greats such as Wardell Gray, Howard McGhee, Dexter Gordon, Chet Baker, Jimmy Guiffre and Shelly Manne.
