Volume 3 of the Glenn Miller Story covers much of 1940 and 1941. In the summer of 1940 Glenn Miller's orchestra came top of the all-important listeners' poll (run by radio station WNEW) - notching up nearly twice as many votes as his nearest rival, Tommy Dorsey. In many ways, 1941 was the height of the mania for swing bands. Glenn signed up The Modernaires vocal group to his band early in 1941 and began work on his first Hollywood film 'Sun Valley Serenade'. Finished in May, the film was released in August - and was a smash! The hit 'Chattanooga Choo Choo' (recorded on 7 May 1941) features on CD4.
