Still active today and still no doubt twistin’ the night away at 81 years of age, Chubby Checker is probably as synonymous with dance as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, probably more so to a certain generation of teens! This quote taken from the liner notes for Swingin’ Dancin’ Party Vol 3 tells you all you needed to have known way back when these classic dance albums were released, “Did ‘ya hear the one about the Martian who landed his flying saucer at a hop... walked over to a teenager and said “Take Me To Your Leader”. The teenager, obeying his command, took the space man by the hand, walked up to the stage, and introduced him to CHUBBY CHECKER. The space man flipped when he saw Chubby “Twistin’” for everyone’s been flipped since big “Mr. C.C.” started the whole country “Twistin’”, and it’s no surprise that the teeners consider Chubby their leader. Chubby has put the “oomph” back into teenage dancing”. Add a little Gary U.S. Bonds also still going strong at 84 years of age and Joey Dee also still around and performing at 81 years of age and you can see just how good singin’ and dancin’ The Twist can be for your health!
