AVID Roots presents the latest release in our Four Classic Albums Plus series with a re-mastered 2CD release featuring four classic country blues legends, complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details;
Robert Johnson: King Of The Delta Blues Singers; Leadbelly: Ledbetters Best; Charlie Patton: The Immortal Charlie Patton Number 1" and Blind Blake: The Legendary Blind Blake plus six bonus tracks.
Following the incredible success of our AVID Roots series which includes such classic blues names as Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Lightnin Hopkins, Jimmy Reed, B.B King, John Lee Hooker, T Bone Walker, Lonnie Johnson, Reverend Blind Gary Davis, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee and Big Joe Williams, not to mention two recent volumes of classic Blues Piano players, we thought it was well overdue to add some of the greatest names in blues to our Classic Roots catalogue. For this re-mastered 2CD set we are indeed going back to the country and the classic wandering blues man. Here we present four bluesmen at the absolute top of the Blues hierarchy in the shape of the legendary Robert Johnson, Huddie (Leadbelly) Ledbetter, Charlie Patton and last but by no means least Blind Blake. We have managed to unearth four classic albums by these four legends that appeared in the early 1960s. The Robert Johnson set is of course the classic recordings he made in the late 1930s and that was put together on the defining album, King of the Delta Blues Singers in 1961. All the classics are to be found here and what a way to kick off the set, frenetically exhausting stuff! Leadbelly follows with perhaps a slightly more subdued set of classics from the mid 1940s, but hey there is tremendous power and emotion in that voice. CD2 kicks off with the extraordinary voice of Charlie Patton, calling to us from way back in 1929 through to 1934 on recordings the great man made for Paramount and Vocalion. We conclude with the wonderful voice and remarkable guitar stylings of Blind Blake from recordings made for Paramount between 1926-1932. The recordings on these album are from 78 rpm shellac discs originally recorded between the late 1920s-early 1940s. While every effort has been made to reduce hiss and crackle, there is inevitably some residual surface noise that reflects the vintage nature of the source material. As with all AVID releases, we hope you enjoy this classic set and check out our extensive catalogue for more great music across jazz, blues, country and many other musical genres.
