AVID Jazz continues with its Four Classic Albums series with a re-mastered 2CD release from The Jazztet (featuring Art Farmer & Benny Golson) complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details.

Here at AVID we are having a bit of an Art Farmer year, we’ve already released one set from the great horn man AMSC1438 which has been warmly welcomed, and here we come with another stunning release. This time Art joins up with the renowned tenor saxophonist Benny Golson for a series of classic albums under the band name The Jazztet. The Jazztet was formed in 1959 and ran until 1962 with Farmer and Golson at the helm frequently joined by a variety of great sideman along the way. Those featured on our four selections include McCoy Tyner, Curtis Fuller, Addison Farmer, Cedar Walton. Albert Heath, Grachan Moncur III, Harold Mabern and Herbie Lewis. Relative newcomer, trombonist Grachan Moncur III would contribute two fine songs to the proceedings and go on to have an excellent sole career with two excellent albums for Blue Note, well worth checking out. We are pleased to have included the four key albums in the career of The Jazztet , three studio based sets and the thrilling live set At Birdhouse which shows off the band at the height of its powers.
