AVID Country presents the latest release in our Five Classic Album Plus series with a 2CD release from Johnny Horton, complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details.
The Fantastic Johnny Horton; The Spectacular Johnny Horton; Johnny Horton Sings Free And Easy, Honky Tonk Man and Johnny Horton Makes History plus five bonus tracks.
Maybe not a name that immediately springs to mind when one considers country greats? But Louisiana Hayride favourite Johnny Horton achieved a great deal in his cruelly cut short life. A friend of Johnny Cash and influence on the likes of Dwight Yoakam, and covered by the great George Jones, Johnny Horton had a few run ins with fame and success in his short career. Discovered early on in a musical talent contest hosted by Jim Reeves he was encouraged to pursue a career in music. After initial success, he was mentored by Hank Williams himself a regular on the Hayride. However, success outside of the Hayride seemed to elude him until he was signed to Columbia and cut his huge hit Honky Tonk Man. Johnny would go on to ride the rockabilly trail for a while before taking a turn in the road that led him to his final era of success with his historical songs. Married twice with the second being to his mentor Hank Williams widow Billie Jean Jones. Johnny was still riding high when he was tragically killed in a car accident. As with all AVID releases, we hope you enjoy them and check out our extensive catalogue for more great music across jazz and many other musical genres.
