AVID Jazz continues with its Four Classic Album series with a re-mastered 2CD release from Coleman Hawkins, complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details.
"The Hawk In Hi-Fi"; "Soul"; "At Ease With Coleman Hawkins" and "The Hawk Relaxes".
The eagle eyed (or should that be, "hawk" eyed!) among our AVID Jazz enthusiasts may have been surprised by the lack of any Coleman Hawkins classic albums in our current jazz catalogue, or as you also might say, not a "bean" could be found!! Our original classic album (AMSC1025) has now been deleted, although you may be able to find a copy online if you hurry! As jazz legends go, they don't really come any bigger than Coleman Hawkins and so we are proud to be starting the Hawkins revival right here with this new Classic Albums release. By the late 1950s and early 1960s Coleman Hawkins really had nothing left to prove to the jazz world. He had been at the forefront of all the significant jazz movements of the 20th century from swing to be-bop. He was therefore able to relax and play as he wished and with who he wished which with our four classic selections this meant on one album a quartet, another an orchestra and on a couple of others, a quintet. Here we are featuring the more mellow side of the great man, music to just lay back, relax and enjoy. As you would expect from one of the true jazz greats, there was no shortage of great players eager to join the Hawk on these outings.
