AVID Pop continues with its Five Classic Album series with a re-mastered 2CD release from Johnny Burnette complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details
“Dreamin’”; “Johnny Burnette”; “Johnny Burnette Sings”, “Roses Are Red” and “Hits And Other Favourites’” plus nine bonus tracks.
Another one of those “was he this or was he that” singers! Johnny Burnette, born March 25th 1934 in Memphis had once lived in the same housing project as Elvis and his family and his short career would go on to somewhat mirror that of the king (without the movies!) He certainly started off playing in a rock n roll/ rockabilly style with a huge debt to country music. His first album with his brother Dorsey as The Rock n Roll Trio was a smash rockabilly classic. You can find it on our fab “Rockabilly Legends” (AMSC1377) album which also features Buddy Knox, Ronnie Hawkins, Ray Smith and Carl Mann. But Johnny was destined for other things and as the rock n roll era begun to take a downturn it was the time of the teen idol. Johnny became a pop star alongside the teen heart throbs of the era such as Ricky Nelson, Fabian, Frankie Avalon and Bobby Vee. The five Liberty albums he recorded between 1959 and 1962 were great pop albums as you will discover and who knows he could have gone on to make movies like Elvis, make a fantastic comeback and appear in a white jump suit in Las Vegas! However, tragically, he was killed in a boating accident in 1964 at the terribly young age of 30 and the legend was created.
