AVID Jazz presents four classic John Coltrane albums including original LP liner notes on a finely re-mastered and low priced double CD. Coltrane Jazz, My Favourite Things, Bags and Trane and Giant Steps. Recorded in 1960 directly after Giant Steps our first selection Coltrane Jazz could almost be a continuation of that earlier masterpiece, representing as it does the ideas and concepts presented on the preceding record. My Favourite Things also from 1960 represents Tranes first outing with his own quartet and features McCoy Tyner on piano, Elvin Jones on drums, and the underrated Steve Davis on drums. (maybe he was spending too much time playing snooker!!). Fine interplay is the name of the game on the 1959 date Bags & Trane where MJQs Milt Jackson meets John Coltrane with the full creative co-operation of the rhythm section of Hank Jones on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and another MJQ alumnus, Connie Kay on drums. Giant Steps indeed for 1959! Coltranes first outing where he writes all the material himself! Perhaps he had been saving all the best stuff for himself whilst playing with Miles!? Listening to this amazing album it sure looks that way! For this landmark album, Coltane is joined by Tommy Flanagan on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, Art Taylor on drums with Wynton Kelly on piano and Jimmy Cobb on drums for Naima. All four albums have been digitally re-mastered
